David Sturkey's Update (4/12/23) on Building campaign

Dear Congregation of Christ the Redeemer,

As many of you know, we have been working for quite some time now on our Building Campaign. We have a building committee, chaired by Dustin Albright, that has been working for almost 2 years now on the plan for our campus and worship space. We have just completed an important milestone in that process so I wanted to update you on where we are now.

We recently hired Trehel as our General Contractor for the building project. Over the last 6 weeks, Trehel has put together the actual estimate of the construction costs for Phase 1. As you all know, construction costs have increased substantially over the last few years, beginning with COVID19 and the global supply chain issues impacting building materials and costs. Why do we need a new building?

While our tent has served us well, we do not have a permanent sanctuary. Having to set up and tear down every Sunday means...

  • Growth is limited. We are limited in our natural growth because we do not have a sanctuary to accommodate more people than can fit in the tent.
  • Those with mobility issues are being excluded. We are missing out on opportunities to grow disciples by unintentionally excluding those with mobility issues and those who are hindered by the unpredictable outdoor conditions.
  • Opportunities for deeper spiritual formation are limited. We don’t have the space to offer a full range of age-appropriate formation hour classes.
  • Time and energy are wasted on logistics. Our parishioners—the hands and feet of Jesus Christ through whom the Holy Spirit works—spend their valuable time and energy on logistics instead of spreading the Good news of Jesus Christ in word and deed.

But with God ahead of us to guide us and with you as our mission partner, we can raise funds to give our church the permanent sanctuary it needs.
